Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification, has joined the Latvian Wind Energy Association, supporting the industry by ensuring assets, products, infrastructure and processes comply with standards and regulations.
“Wind energy technologies evolve rapidly, therefore it is important that both industry stakeholders and independent experts are up to speed with the energy standards, best available techniques and sustainable solutions, thus jointly raising the industry quality bar,” says Andris Vanags, head of the Latvian Wind Energy Association. “Bureau Veritas offers a well-thought-out methodology that ensures the implementation of the industry standards reduces various risks and optimizes the O&M costs of wind farms. Like the entire wind energy sector, our new member too believes in the green transition, in which renewable energy plays a key role. This is important because synergies like that are the main enablers for the improvement of our already high standards. ”
“Wind is an extremely important means of producing renewable energy, that will be a major contributor to achieving EU’s climate and energy targets. We are pleased to have the opportunity to work closely with industry experts to promote the use of this resource, while reducing the negative impact of fossil energy”, says Iveta Lazdiņa, Member of the Board of Bureau Veritas Latvia. “Cooperation with the Latvian Wind Energy Association is important for us, as it gives an opportunity to communicate about the ways to develop wind farms with minimal environmental impacts and potential risks, while ensuring that sustainability is at heart of all processes thus reducing future investments and improving performance. Bureau Veritas has an international experience and expertise in the field gained while working in Europe and Asia and ready to be applied in the Latvian and Baltic market. Green energy is crucial for Latvia, and it is imperative to produce it in a sustainable manner”.
Bureau Veritas Latvia provides services in the Business to Business to Society segment. The company’s strategy is to promote the sustainability to its clients, placing a great emphasis on climate change mitigation and cost reduction through the use of renewable energy. EU has put climate neutrality by 2050 in the center of all policies, and Bureau Veritas Latvia is also following the current changes in the requirements of Latvian legislation, offering new solutions to ensure compliance with these requirements.
Latvia currently has the third lowest installed wind energy capacity in the European Union (78 MW), ahead of only Slovenia and Slovakia. In Lithuania, wind energy capacity is seven times that in Latvia (548 MW), but in Estonia – almost five times higher (320 MW). * According to the National Energy and Climate Plan 2021-2030 Latvia plans to install 800 MW of wind energy capacity by 2030.
